Episode 38 - Preventative Maintenance

What can I say about this inane project that hasn't already been said? I play some hits. I play some duds. I continue to be self-absorbed. For some reason I censor myself and don't talk about crying at a Julie Doiron show.

Episode 37 - Better than Beatlejuice

If I'm getting this exhausted with this project, I can only IMAGINE what people listening to this garbage must think. At some point during this episode (somewhere between the Hollywood calypso and the mega-ultra-rare but actually good Christian LP) I was reminded of the ever eclectic "Lonesome Jimmy's Twilight Lounge", a radio show disdained during my youth. How did my life become 99% shtick? Pray that Episode 38 will only be super sincere actual good music.

Episode 36 - Tribute to Dick Scoppettone

This episode has some pretty amazing tunes and some pretty lackluster stories. In reality, I could've talked about Harpers Bizarre the entire hour, but sadly this was not the case. I also totally break the rules and play a Preston School of Industry 10", fairly certain that I had played them way back in the P episode. Meanwhile, the jury is still out regarding the inclusion of my 10" collection in this "internet project". Submit your votes in the comment section!?!

Episode 35 - Moby's Grapes

During the show I ebayed the Moby Grape LP and found out that it is actually quite valube if it has the infamous middle finger cover. Pretty rad to see a classic high school joke on a major label 1966 LP sleeve.

Episode 34 - 2006 < 1996

This episode leans heavily on the year 2006, during which I bought many records at Kobey's swap meet and had no friends. I'm not sure if I've made more friends since then, but I've stopped buying any goodlooking dollar record to cross my path. Some revelations within, but mostly just cold wave, industrial, prog and the origins of heavy metal, all wrong turns in my journey of self-discovery.

Episode 33 - The Return of Bruno

A fairly underwhelming episode with digital clipping and me saying the wrong episode number many times. It's still pretty cool that I own all the "It Came From Canada" comps even if they don't evoke many 'great stories'.

Episode 32 - Actually pretty overwhelming

I'm not sure if it was the extended break between this episode and the last, or the raw power of the "Blow the fuse" compilation but I basically lose my mind at the end of this episode. I suddenly understand the root of so many of my social flaws and idiosyncrasies. Years of space between me and my virile collection of B-grade "lost" 60's garage hits compilations has given room for a new portal to form. I think this happens at precisely 47:38.

Episode 31 - Homegrownish

I struggle through the bulk of the Homegrown compilations (local only compilations released by the San Diego classic rock FM station) and start to feel bad about my life. Luckily a few 80's punk comps + 60's Canadiana collections come through near the end. Collectors should note that this episode begins with an M-Blanket song.

Episode 28 - Chillout

The peak of my ongoing quest for high school bands playing rock songs is presented hear with the Golden Rams' rendition of Blood, Sweat and Tears' Spinning Wheel. Episode 27 - The Transition Era

The first "almost all good music" episode. These records date mostly to my first few months living in San Diego, clearly documenting the rise of smooth pop and fall of the anything-with-a-harpsichord dream. Also note the horrible technical difficulties due to the amateurish state (no headphones!) of the KSDT studios.

Episode 26 - Exit the Stacks

This marks the end of records pulled from "the stacks" which are actually just these shelves in my room that I made face each other so that when you walk in between them it feels claustrophobic and stuffy. Needless to say, I'm lazy and don't refile records very frequently, so most of the records in the stacks hadn't seen the turntable in quite some time. The rest of this journey (starting with the last song in this episode!) will now be focused on more contemporary finds/loves and records that I've actually listened to once or twice in the last 3 years. Hold on to you horse.

Episode 24 - Special Mystery Geust [sic]

Keyvan joins me to analyze my life through my record collection, but mostly just says stuff about the way I dress. Musically, this episode has some pretty rough cuts and also features one of the first records I ever bought (The Ventures!).

P.S. Saying that the Venture made music "safe for dads" should be credited to this guy who was friends with this Montreal/McGill hip dude Christophe. Tim and I went to a party at his house once and he said it while dancing to the Ventures in Space LP.
